ACTEGA DS, manufacturer of compounds in
highly-regulated industrial segments, presented its new Medical
Technology division for the first time within the exhibition and
succeeded in attracting a high degree of attention for its
high-performance ProvaMed® plastic compound with its wide range
of technical medical applications. ACTEGA DS can look back on
several decades of know-how in the area of plastics
manufacturing, e.g. for the food industry. As is already the
case in the food sector, there is also a stronger focus in the
technical medical and pharmaceutical areas on an innovative
range of TPE materials. Thanks to their great flexibility and
resistance to a wide variety of media as well as a wide range of
mechanical properties, individual adaptations and maximum areas
of application are possible.

Die
prozesstechnischen Eigenschaften unserer TPE-Werkstoffe erweisen
sich beispielsweise im Einsatz als Dichtungsmaterial für
Spritzenkolben als besonders vorteilhaft. Einerseits gilt es,
eine konstante Dichtigkeit des Kolbens zu erhalten,
andererseits, durch die Elastizität der Dichtung ein leichtes
Gleiten des Spritzenzylinders zu gewährleisten. Darüber hinaus
ist Sterilität gefordert, ohne dass die dafür benötigte
Gamma-Bestrahlung zu Undichtigkeiten; Funktionsstörungen oder
Alterungserscheinungen führt. Schließlich ist auch ein mögliches
Migrationspotential zu evaluieren und zu minimieren. Durch
entsprechende Formulierung der TPE-Rezeptur kann die optimale
Erfüllung des Anforderungsprofils garantiert, gleichzeitig
können alle potentiell beeinträchtigenden Einflüsse eliminiert
werden.

The technical process
features of our TPE materials prove to be of particular advantage
when used as sealing materials for syringe plungers, for example. On
the one hand, it is important to maintain constant plunger
tightness. On the other hand, the elasticity of the sealing should
guarantee that the syringe cylinder glides smoothly. Furthermore,
sterility is required without the requisite Gamma radiation leading
to leaks, functional defects or ageing. And finally, a possible
migration potential must be evaluated and minimized. By formulating
the TPE recipe accordingly, optimum compliance with the requirement
profile can be guaranteed while eliminating all potentially harmful
influences.
