Präzision
für die Medizin
Precision for medicine |
TPE eingesetzt.
The range of
devices used once or several times or even permanently implanted
in the body is as broad as the medical requirements on such
products. And it's a similar situation when it comes to
manufacturing processes and the materials used.
Whether assemblies for infusion and blood bags,
transition and connection systems, implants and components for
keyhole medicine, inhalers, syringes, drain tubes, pipettes,
tube systems or packaging – to name but a few of the products
required in the areas of medical technology and pharmacy – the
selection of materials must be attributed maximum attention.
Filigree components, for example, must not exceed very close
tolerances in the micro range while being capable of
withstanding high permanent loads. What's more, maximum purity,
hygiene and safety must be guaranteed for and within the
patient. For this reason, synthetic compounds based on TPU, TPV
and TPE are often used. |

Verarbeitungstechnische Vorteile
Processing advantages |
At ACTEGA DS,
we have been relying on thermoplastic materials
for many years and on TPE in particular. On account of its great
flexibility, high thermal and media resistance, major advantages
in terms of processing and recycling, the demanding and
sophisticated recipes associated with thermoplastic elastomers
represent the perfect alternative to vulcanized rubber, PVC and
silicone in practically all areas today.
TPE can be melted, extruded and injection-molded
as well as offering a range of technical processing advantages.
Particularly in sensitive and highly-regulated markets such as
food packaging, pharmacy and medical technology, for example,
where minimization of the migration potential,
bio-compatibility, consumer and patient protection, hygiene and
sterilization are key requirements, the use of TPE has proved to
be indispensable. |

Hohe Haftung und Beständigkeit
High degree of adhesion and resistance |
Nehmen wir zum
Beispiel einmal sehr dünne Beschichtungen für medizinische
Produkte wie Katheter oder Stents. Solche Gleitbeschichtungen
Let's
take very thin coatings for medical products
such as catheters or stents, for example. Such lubricating
coatings are designed to reduce friction between the catheter
and patient tissue while facilitating maneuvers by surgeons
during certain operations. It is therefore necessary that the
coatings of only a few micrometers in thickness can be easily
applied to the substrates. Thermoplastic materials have proven
to be particularly suitable as they display a covalent bond with
a high degree of adhesion and resistance. |

Leicht, weich und
biegsam
Lightweight, malleable and flexible |
Oder nehmen wir den
Bereich Kanülen. Sie werden in der Anästhesie, Neurologie,
extrakorporalen Blutbehandlung, in der Urologie, Infusions- und
Transfusionstherapie, Onkologie (z.B.
TPE-Rezepturen an.
Or let's take the area
of drain tubes which are used in the areas of anesthesia,
neurology, extra-corporal blood treatment, urology, infusion and
transfusion therapy, oncology (e.g. hard or soft biopsies),
vertebroplasty (for treating osteoporosis), as transfer systems
for mixing and manufacturing pharmaceutical agents through to
biopsy products for dermatological and cosmetic applications,
and must therefore comply with a multitude of requirements –
considering they literally get under patients' skin.
In many cases, they
are obliged to be particularly lightweight, soft and flexible
which necessitates manufacture from soft, transparent plastic of
medical-grade quality. In many applications, drain tubes need to
be permeable for X-rays and cobalt beams while others demand
Luer adapters for introducing medical solutions or fluids to the
body. This adapter is usually made of transparent plastic which
in turn permits visual control of the solution flow.
Especially for drain tube sets, we offer the 1070 variant from
our ProvaMed® portfolio - sterilizable and/or autoclavable
compounds based on our medical-grade TPE recipes. |

TPE-Thermoplast-Verbunde
nehmen einen Großteil dieser Anwendungen ein. In diesem
Zusammenhang gewinnen TPE-Werkstoffe aufgrund ihrer
thermoplastischen Eigenschaften im Vergleich zum Gummi
kontinuierlich an Einfluss.
Gerade in sensiblen

Material combinations to
achieve special properties displayed by components made of
plastic and their applications have meanwhile become a matter of
course. TPE thermoplastic compounds account for a large share of
these applications. In this context, TPE materials are
increasingly gaining in influence on account of their
thermoplastic properties compared to rubber. The VDI Plastics
Technology Department extends an invitation to the TPE
Conference from April 16-17, 2013 in Nuremberg. We will also be
present within the framework of a supporting exhibition and
available for discussions with you.
Particularly in sensitive and highly-regulated
markets for which Actega DS has been developing innovative
solutions for many years, the use of TPE has proved to be
indispensable when it comes to complying with manifold
requirements such as minimizing the migration potential,
bio-compatibility, consumer and patient protection, hygiene and
sterilization possibilities.

Ästhetische Medizin und Kosmetik
Aesthetic medicine and cosmetics |
Darunter fasst man formverändernde Eingriffe zusammen, deren
Indikationen nicht medizinisch, sondern ausschließlich durch den
Wunsch des Patienten bestimmt sind. Sie sind umgangssprachlich
auch als „Schönheitsoperationen“ bekannt und haben die
Verbesserung des Erscheinungsbildes zum Ziel.
Ästhetische
Chirurgie ist keine Neuerfindung des 20. Jahrhunderts, sondern
schon seit mindestens 1400 Jahren bekannt, erlebte ihren
Aufschwung allerdings erst ab dem 19. Jahrhundert. Zeitschriften
Fachpersonal PVC-, Phthalat-, Silikon-, Latex-frei.
Induced by beauty and wellness trends,
overeating and lack of exercise, the market for aesthetic
medicine is steadily on the increase. This market represents an
umbrella for reshaping operations whose indications are not
medical but rather exclusively determined by the patient's
personal requests. They are also known colloquially as "plastic
surgery" and are designed to improve the respective patient's
physical appearance.
Aesthetic surgery is by no means a reinvention
of the 20th century – it has in fact been around for at least
1400 years – but it did not experience an upswing until the 19th
century. Nowadays, magazines only depict smooth-skinned, slim
and perfectly-sculpted people. This increases the interest in
Botox, wrinkle fillers, liposuction, breast augmentation and
blotch removing laser treatment among the not quite so young,
slightly or entirely shapeless or those who are otherwise
dissatisfied with their appearance. The number of patients
undergoing plastic surgery has increased greatly over the years
as demands on personal appearance have soared. But whether
acupuncture, wrinkle treatment or anti-ageing applications are
involved, products and devices are always used which are applied
directly to and inside the human body and must therefore also be
of medical-grade quality. The requirements on cosmetic syringes,
tube systems in pump applications, drain tubes, suction devices
and even packaging are the same as for their medical
counterparts: the lowest possible migration potential,
bio-compatibility and free of mucous membrane irritations, PVC,
phthalates, silicone and latex for the protection of consumers
and specialist personnel. This is only possible when the
materials on which they are based display all of these
properties – just like our ProvaMed® TPE recipes. |
